The land in Green, Iowa, and Dodge Counties in Wisconsin is ideal for making flavorful, unique cheese. The soil is rich in limestone and other minerals, which flavor the water and grass that the dairy cows consume. Combined with the region’s temperate climate and plentiful rainfall, these conditions create the perfect environment for the production of rich, sweet milk used in the creation of our cheeses.

Cheese has been made in this part of Wisconsin for more than a century—a long and hearty tradition. As important as the climate in which these cheeses are made are the artisans who make it. Many are of Swiss and German heritage, whose immigrant ancestors knew this region of the United States was perfect for keeping their traditions alive. Many of today’s craftsmen use the same traditions, skills, and recipes that have been passed down for generations. One taste of this wonderful cheese will convince you. This is truly the finest, most flavorful, distinctive cheese made in America today.

I have been involved with cheeses for 30 years. I started and managed a Cheese and Gift Store (The Cheese Shop) in Wayzata, Minnesota in 1973, and sold for a profit two years later! After finishing my degree in Agricultural Business in 1980, I moved to Chicago.

In 1981, I began selling Wisconsin cheese from small regional producers at suburban Chicago area farmers markets, which I did for 25 years. The last 7 years have been at Farmers Markets exclusively in Chicago. In addition during this time, I sold Wisconsin cheeses at the wholesale level to companies such as Dominic’s, HEB, Whole Foods and Wild Oats. I was active in the total process from the Cheesemaker to the consumer, from the creation of the cheese, to the shipping, to distributor relations and finally to the placement and positioning of these wonderful Wisconsin cheeses in the dairy/deli case.

We now sell more than 35 cheeses, from a 2 year old Aged Swiss and a 2-5 year old Aged Cheddar to an Applewood Smoked Gouda, Wisconsin Goat cheeses and mouth-watering jacks such as “Morel and Leek”, Habanero and Horseradish Jack. In response to our customer's requests, igotcheese.com has expanded from its presence at Farmer's Markets to the web so that you may now enjoy our products year round.
